Hatred

If all men are created equal and not any other,

Then why do we hate each other?

If only we could see every man as our brother,

Then we wouldn’t be killing one another.

We hate them because they look different,

They dress different, their language is different;

Had our attitude been not so indifferent,

We could have seen that deep within, they are not so different.

Is religion the reason for all the hatred?

My faith is pure and yours is not so sacred.

It’s neither religion, nor the love of nation,

What makes us bigots is our lack of education.

Driven by our lust for luxury and power,

We want to make everyone cower;

Those who stand up, we despise,

Hate we must, is there any surprise?

Hatred is born out of fear and jealousy,

Hatred is born out of greed and inadequacy;

Hatred is born out of pain we have suffered,

Hatred is born when our cries for justice have been smothered;

If we want our hearts to be cured,

It is love we need, be rest assured;

If only we can show the temerity,

To love and care for the entire humanity,

One day we shall overcome this dreadful hatred,

That’s the day in the world which is most awaited.
